Our journey through Costa Rica began in San José, where our driver warmly welcomed us. Since we arrived late and were still feeling the effects of jet lag, we only took a short walk. Hotel El Presidente is very centrally located, making it easy to explore the capital on foot and at your own pace when time allows.

The next morning, we set off early for Tortuguero. Thanks to the jet lag, getting up wasn’t difficult at all. Since we didn’t have to drive ourselves, we could relax and enjoy the ride while letting Costa Rica’s fascinating nature enchant us. Even though we come from a very green country ourselves, the vegetation here simply blew us away. In Tortuguero, we stayed at the Evergreen Lodge, which truly lives up to its name. Surrounded by the jungle, we felt almost like part of it – an unforgettable experience. In the morning, we were woken up by the loud howls of the howler monkeys. It’s amazing how such small monkeys can have such powerful voices! Of course, a boat ride through the canals was a must. On this day, we also took over our rental car – curious to see how well we would manage.

Our next stop was Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on the Caribbean coast. The drive went smoothly, thanks to the valuable tips from Bella Aventura about driving in Costa Rica. Upon arriving in Puerto Viejo, we immediately fell in love with its Caribbean charm. Exhausted, we first relaxed on the beach with a fresh coconut. Later, following our hotel’s recommendation, we tried the local cuisine – since then, I’ve been a total fan of Pollo Caribeño. On the second day, we took a walk through Cahuita National Park. The guided tour was a complete success: we saw howler monkeys, who had only greeted us with their voices in Tortuguero, and even a sloth mother with her baby. There’s hardly anything cuter than baby animals for me. On the third day, my love for the water came into play: we went snorkeling and experienced an incredible underwater world. The absolute highlight was the sea turtles. On our last day in Puerto Viejo, we treated ourselves to a relaxing beach day – after all, there was still plenty of adventure ahead.

In La Fortuna, we first strolled through the town and soaked in the atmosphere. We ended the day with a visit to the hot springs at our hotel. The rain made the experience even more special. The next day, we hiked through Arenal Volcano National Park. Due to the rainy season, the trails were a bit muddy, but the natural scenery more than made up for it. We ended this day once again in the hot springs – the perfect reward after a hike.
From there, we continued to Monteverde, where, as passionate coffee lovers, we were excited for our coffee tour. It was varied, informative, and truly a highlight. The following day, we visited the hanging bridges and experienced nature from a different point of view.

Our journey was slowly coming to an end when we reached Sámara. We felt a bit nostalgic, but our time there turned out to be very special. On our first evening in Sámara, following Bella Aventura’s recommendation, we went to Playa Carrillo – and we were not disappointed. The sunset was breathtaking. The next day, we went on a boat tour to see whales and dolphins. Experiencing these marine giants in the wild was simply indescribable.
Finally, we returned to San José to begin our journey home. After two weeks full of adventures, natural wonders, and encounters with wildlife, we can only say: Costa Rica has truly enchanted us.
